One of the most popular questions asked when I do an Akashic Records reading is “What past lives have I had?”

Often this question is asked out of curiosity.

It’s also asked from a place of deep pain around not fitting in, struggling with challenging circumstances and otherwise feeling resistance to fully living the current life.

The underlying question under that question is inevitably the hopeful expectation that information about a past life will help the person feel better about themselves, solve and change the circumstances, or feel like they belong in their now.

When I’m in the Records I feel the person’s pain and struggle and I also feel the unconditional love that the Akashic Records hold for everything and everyone who exists.

Here are a few details I’ve learned about past lives and why information about them doesn’t always come forward from the Records.

Past lives aren’t always linked together in any logical or sequential ways that make sense to our linear mind. In a sense they aren’t “past” at all, they are other incarnations that our Soul has experienced and explored and since time doesn’t exist outside our 3D plane, we only perceive them as “past” with our linear mind.

Lives are often linked in a web-like structure because they have similar themes of experience. A theme can be anything that the Soul wants to learn and experience, such as courage, communication, relationships, wealth, health, gratitude, forgiveness, etc. To gain full mastery of a theme, all facets of it are experienced. It’s helpful to think of this as a spectrum. An example is Wealth and Lack and everything in between. A soul might experience the full spectrum of a theme in one incarnation or across several of them.

If a person is struggling in their present day life, this does not mean they did anything horrible in a past life. Current challenges and circumstances can be linked to past life decisions and imprints, but this isn’t unequivocal.

If a past life is relevant to the current lifetime, the information will be given to the degree that the person is willing to receive the insight. But simply knowing this information doesn’t “fix” any challenges. It often explains a lot and soothes the mind but the person is always invited to make their own choices and take action to do their healing and growth work.

If there are no past lives relevant to the current circumstances or challenges of the person, the Records won’t offer any random information related to random past lives. I’ve tried hacking this and it’s impossible (see next point).

The Akashic Record Keepers exist to help us remember that we are already whole, worthy, enough and divine. They do not need to offer us with random information hoping we will understand that we are already whole, worthy, enough and divine. They don’t need to hope and wish that we remember this, they hold an unconditionally loving space and exist outside of 3D time where our Soul embodies its wholeness, worthiness, enoughness and divinity. Our human self may or may not remember, accept, or embody this in our current lifetime, and this doesn’t change how the Akashic Records Keepers recognize us.

My own teacher says that “it’s not the truth that sets us free, it’s knowing the truth that sets us free.” And I add that it’s knowing the truth and being willing to take responsibility for ourselves that ultimately sets us free. Whether or not a past life experience is relevant in our current lifetime is besides the point because when we’re willing to take responsibility for ourselves and our own growth and transformation, we are capable of anything!
